Membership within the church is something that the Holy Spirit gives and the Church recognizes.
If you are a follower of Jesus then you automatically become part of his people – the church!
Ultimately the church is called to be a community of grace – a fellowship and an opportunity to give and receive grace, to and from other people.
Within this movement we learn to become more like God the Father Son and Holy Spirit, in whose image we are made!

There are some wonderful descriptions in the New Testament about the nature of the Church, and our participation in it, including:

A body – ‘Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.’
(1 Corinthians 12:27)

A Temple –‘you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:4-5)

A Kingdom – ‘To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father – to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.’ (Revelation 1:5-6)

Branches – ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing’ (John 15:5)

A Family – ‘to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12)
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. (Hebrews 13:1)

These various descriptions underscore a core teaching of the Bible:
that through our faith in Jesus we are called into a new relationship not only with God but also with each other.

Jesus calls us to hear his words and put them into practice (Matthew 7:24).

At SDP all people who call our church home are part of the family, and we want to welcome you fully into the journey of fellowship with us!

Becoming a Member.
Membership of St David’s Parkdale Uniting Church is available to those who have been baptized and confirmed their baptism by a public confession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who are in regular fellowship within the life of this congregation and participate regularly in communion and corporate worship, and who willingly accept the leadership of the church and the ongoing responsibilities of membership.

We welcome new members who have been accepted by the Church Council, at a Covenant Service, usually during one of our Congregational Meetings.

YES! I would like to find out more about becoming a member.

You are welcome as part of the family and fellowship of St David’s Parkdale Uniting Church regardless of whether you are ready to become a member.
Adherents are those who regularly participate in the life and witness of the church but have not yet made the commitment of faith to Jesus, or formed the covenant with the church.

Twice a year we have Congregational Meetings – one of which is our AGM.
Adherents are welcome to participate, but may not vote or be elected to Church Council or any position on a council of the Church.

Members willingly accept the responsibilities of service within the church, and are called on to participate in meetings, to prayerfully consider the gifts and graces God has placed within the church and to nominate, and vote, according to the direction of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, and not according to human inclination.

We believe that we discern the guidance of the Holy Spirit through the faithful listening of God’s people, and meetings of the Church are opportunities to participate in discernment and celebration.
